“My Clients don’t care.”

I was at a fun, upscale party over the weekend. It was a large group of successful people. I got into a conversation with a woman who has her own interior design business. I told her that I was a Fashion Stylist and we have a lot in common with styling people(me) and places(her).

She replied, “Oh, I don’t get dressed up to meet clients. I just come from tennis and they’re ok with it. My clients don’t care.”

Really??….I think that she’s telling herself that.

I don’t know who her clientele are or at what price point, but if I’m redesigning my home, I’d like someone to appear stylish, at least! If they’re too busy to get a shower and make the effort to dress professionally for me, that tells me that my business isn’t that important for them to make the effort.

If I’m spending thousands of dollars to upgrade my home and a smaller chunk for her services, I’d like to see a polished professional.

Would you get money advice from a Financial Adviser who works at the office in jeans and a t-shirt?

Would you go to a dentist with bad teeth?

Of course not!! The same should be applied to any work meeting with clients, colleagues and higher-ups.

If you’re in business for yourself or any company, you are always going to be judged by how you appear at first sight. Once they get to know you and your expertise, that’s the clincher! They’ll know that you are the total package inside and out. You’ll be the ultimate professional.

Take time to think about how you appear to others in business daily.

It’s a game changer.
